Wellll... to start out with, i'm very known for my.. unconventional way of "pairing" or "shipping" - the moment you look at my domain, or get a glimpse of some of the network, you'll know right off the bat, "This isn't normal." And it's not! I'm not trying to brag about being different either, because it's just a natural part of me. Then, comes this pairing. For some reason, when I first landed on this series and began to watch it, I fell in love with not only all the characters, the plot, but the whole romance between Otani and Risa. I kept telling myself, "It's canon! It's canon! I can't believe this!" And made a huge deal about it, because, you know, i'm not really "into" canon. I loved Risa and Otani together because.. they have that complex. That stupid height complex which makes their love lives suffer, and the opposite sex always rejects them. Not only that, i'm a big sucker for those "neck-to-neck" pairings, meaning, I like them argumental and driving eachother up the wall. Don't ask. It's not the physical abuse that makes me fangirl-y, more like, the fact they can say whatever they want to eachother without thinking. I think it's hilarious beyond words. Then, the fact that their relationship isn't as "steady" as normal relationships is also pretty.. different. What I mean by not so "steady" is that both will go through some denial phases, a couple of angry phases, and they're going to have the hardest time ever finding romance in eachother. The entire story is an eccentric romantic comedy, and in the end, height doesn't really matter at all.I also find myself drawn to Risa and Otani's personalities. Mainly Otani's, because I love that friendly sort of guy who likes to pull out sarcastic remarks, and tease his favorite girl to no end (see NinaxYuta for any sort of reference), and ultimately a very dense kind of guy. Both of them (Otani and Risa) don't feel terrible about saying horrible things to one another! Before they know it, they'll always forget their little quarrels and make up somehow. To me, a pairing is most interesting when they have a hard time getting along, because, you'll never really know how they'll get together, or what kind of things to expect when watching their relationship grow. Argumental pairs are like that, ;3 they'll always have a big obstacle to overcome, but how they overcome it is what draws a reader in. I personally find that awesome, and the series, in general, is great. It wasn't meant to be serious, and is a very good read for anyone who likes to lean more on the comedy side of romance, rather than it's seriousness. And ...maybe it's just me, but i'm absolutely in love with all the stupid expressions that Risa and Otani exchange, even if they're in love with eachother. Example?
