Otani, the short, cute, lovable guy of Lovely Complex is the love target, who also acts via impulse. He may not be as bossy and loud as Risa, but he shares an equally outgoing, live-for-the-moment personality. Otani, too, suffers from the height complex he has - he's way shorter than almost any girl he's interested in! But not like your typical guy, he's nothing short of showing his affections. He wants to be considered "cool" by the opposite sex, not "cute", which is why most girls aren't too interested in him. They're missing out! He's a once-in-a-lifetime sweetheart with the outgoing persona that any girl would love in a guy. As opposed to Risa, he blends in more with the girls, because he is their height. It's unexpected with Risa Koizumi comes into his life, and becomes his partner in crime. He doesn't realize that when he tries to cheer Risa up from her boy problems, he's actually doing what most guys should do to get the girl they love, hold her hand, keep her warm, ect. ect. Otani can be quite indecisive when it comes to figuring out if he likes Risa (that way) or not, but can't you agree they make quite the couple? Otani never feels alone with Risa, she's one of the components of his life that he can't leave behind.
