On more than one occasion, we are reminded of the main characters' birthdays, and moreso Risa than Otani. Curious about what they are, and how I found them out? For one time, i'm way too observant with this stuff, but Risa is mentioned to have her birthday fall on August 8, which is right in the Leo range. Otani's birthday, on the other hand, has never been officially mentioned (not that I know of), but his birthday falls in April, right when they get report cards. In Japan, schools usually distribute report cards around the beginning of April, falling in the time range of Aries. So. I've come to the conclusion that they are Leo & Aries. And let's face it, no other two signs of the zodiac will ever get along like they do. Below is a description of the relationship, courtesy of this place:

Aries and Leo is usually a great love match. Aries is cardinal and Leo is fixed but both are fire. The two signs form a natural trine which is considered the most favorable aspect. They will recognize in each other a spice for life, a positive out look and leadership abilities. Usually the only problems between the two is they both tend to be very bossy and expect the other to follow. Once they work this out and can work as a team the relationship will run smoothly. Both Leo and Aries, from what i've read, are fire signs - they like to get things going with a positive attitude. Let's look at the two seperately, first, with Leo (Risa Koizumi) - the Leo is described to be dominant, bossy, likes attention, and are normally self-confident and straightforward, which does sound alot like Risa. She's cheerful and bossy, not exactly self-confident about herself (well, she's never had a boyfriend before, so who wouldn't be?), but she definitely is honest and straightforward about things, and rarely keeps things in. On the other side of the spectrum is Aries (Atsushi Otani), whom is described as impulsive, highly cheerful, outspoken, and foolhardy, as well as concerned with self (both Leo and Aries are concerned with self, either way you look at it). The "reason" why these two get along so well: Despite the apparent ego-clash that might go on, there is a mutual admiration for one anothers' abilities, and in layman's terms, they can act crazy together without feeling awkward or any pressure. And that, my friends, is definitely Risa and Otani's relationship. They're always trying to outmatch eachother, provoking one another (because Leo and Aries are two outspoken signs), but can still maintain a good atmosphere with one another. It's kinda funny - i'm sure Aya Nakahara wanted them to be outspoken characters, and she did well to plan out birthdates (if she did, that is). Either way, Aries/Leo (Bossy/Impulsive) best fit Risa/Otani. Because, we all know, you can't any other zodiac sign attack eachother without hesitation and forget about it the next moment - knowing they love eachother deeply. *wink*
